Mary Packard has been teaching for 30 years with 17 of them being at Pittsburg High School. Her devotion to the students she serves and deep love for the Pittsburg Purple Dragons makes her one of our #DynamicDragons

Packard grew up attending Pittsburg Community Schools. Prior to coming to Pittsburg to teach, she worked for a rival school district. She describes her experience of coming home.

"If you're going to work at a school, you root for them. Every time I would see Coach [Larry] Garman at a football game when we would play, he would always ask me if I still bleed purple. Since all my family has gone through Pittsburg, that's just who we root for. It's home.”

"I knew in the seventh grade I wanted to be a teacher. I remember being at Lakeside Junior High and originally I wanted to do physical education and health. Once I got to college, I found out I really liked the health end of it and started focusing on the sciences.”

"I have not coached for three out of my 30 years. When I moved here, I coached middle school then high school volleyball, softball; now it's golf and archery.”

"I'm getting close to retirement age. I could retire in a year, but I do not believe I could go and find a job that gives me this much joy. I like coming to work every day. I might be tired sometimes but once I'm here, there's just something about instructing and being around high school students I really enjoy. If I retired, I would have to get another job. Why would I want to do that when I am doing something I love."
