Bob Kimzey is in his seventh year as an eighth-grade science teacher for Pittsburg Community Schools. Kimzey began his career teaching high school sciences in his hometown but came back to Pittsburg, a city he fell in love with while earning his degree. His love for teaching and building character in our students makes him one of our #DynamicDragons.

"In about the eighth or ninth grade, I began thinking about going into education. I had some really good teachers who connected with me. I had great elementary teachers but it was different because it is in those years you start to figure yourself out and looking at what you want to do."

"First, I just think about what I want for my own kids. Secondly, if you want students to really learn these concepts and do real science to model things, and to investigate, the class has to be hands-on."

"I enjoy the people I work with and the kids I get to hang out with every day. I appreciate that Pittsburg strives to go above and beyond to give kids in this community as many opportunities as possible to succeed and be involved in their school."

"It's great to plug kids into something and make them feel connected. In addition to teaching science, I coach middle school football, middle school wrestling, and middle school after-school weights. It's a great way to get kids connected and invested in the school. They are able to build character and learn perseverance, commitment, trust, and hard work. Those traits have translated to my classroom and also help students later in life."
