Mission of Pittsburg BEA

The Pittsburg Business Education Alliance partnership will provide the link between schools and businesses to identify career needs and develop strategies to provide students with knowledge and expectations of, insights into, and experience in various careers.

The Business Education Alliance has supported the development of a School to Career curriculum at Pittsburg High School since 1997 when it was created as a Visions for Growth Committee of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

What is School-to-Career?

It's a practical approach to learning and acknowledging that students learn best when they learn by doing.

What is School-to-Career for?

It's for students - whether planning college, other post-secondary training or education, or going directly to a job.

Who is involved?

Parents, employers and community organizations work with schools to provide a network of opportunities for students to learn.

Pittsburg's BEA

1. Created as a Visions for Growth Committee co-sponsored by the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and City of Pittsburg.

2. Networked to provide Mock Interviews for Junior and Senior students to simulate an interview experience.

3. Developed contacts to offer Job Shadowing opportunities for all Pittsburg High School sophomores to develop connections in the working community.

4. Sponsored the Career Fair for Junior and Senior students in the County.

5. Worked with State Leadership Teams to promote the School to Career Curriculum.

6. Developed the book Where to Work in Bourbon and Crawford Counties in cooperation with Pittsburg State University Graphics and Imaging.

7. The Pittsburg BEA maintains several ongoing activities.
