Three Pittsburg USD 250 administrators will be shifting positions in the 2006-2007 school year. USD 250 board members approved transferring Cory Gibson into the Pittsburg Community Middle School Principal spot and Chris Garzone to Pittsburg High School assistant principal. Gibson had been principal at Lakeside Elementary School, while Garzone was assistant principal at PCMS. "They had both indicated an interest in transferring," said USD 250 Superintendent Gary Price. "When Chris Garzone came here, he was interested in secondary and the job we had was secondary, but it was middle school, and he likes high school and had some experience. So we went with him in that because he's shown us a good record this year and has that preference. "Cory Gibson has certification in all levels, and had indicated last year when the position was open that he was interested," Price said. "But he had been at Lakeside only a short time and stayed to complete some of the projects he had. But he had expressed some secondary interest." Donna Zerr is staying at the same school, but she will be switching from PHS assistant principal to PHS associate principal. Price said he had advertised for the principal opening at Lakeside and had already received some inquiries about the position. Board members also approved having only one meeting in April, and shifted the date to April 18. The original date of the first meeting was set for April 10. Five of the seven board members attended the meeting, with Scott Howard and Albert Mendez were the only absences. In other news, board members: * Listened to a presentation by Noah Grotheer on the district's energy education project. Despite problems with dual heating at PCMS and an Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning system that was "out of whack," Grotheer said the district had saved 20 percent on energy bills, adding up to more than $71,000. Projects are pending both for the system at PCMS, which has areas heated both by the old boiler system and the newer system, and PHS, which have Grotheer confident that the district will save even more money. "We still have a lot of places to grow," Grotheer said. "The future looks very good." Grotheer also discussed the possibility of blacking out the schools at night, turning off both the inside and outside lights to save energy. * Discussed possible changes to the 2006-2007 student and activity handbooks. The handbooks were presented for review and discussion Monday, and they will be discussed in further depth April 18, before eventually approving the content.
