PSU Technology and the Classroom Conference


Tech conference set at PHS

Close to 120 educators and technicians will make their way to Pittsburg High School on Friday for the 10th annual Technology in the Classroom Conference.

The conference, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is sponsored by the Southeast Kansas Education Center at Greenbush and Pittsburg State University. It is held at a different four-state area school every year. Last year's conference was in Galena.

"We were very excited to be able to land this conference," said Tina Jones, Pittsburg USD 250 communications coordinator. "It's a great way to showcase our district and our schools."

Steve Scott, PSU vice president for academic affairs, was tabbed as the keynote speaker. Before accepting his position, Scott served as the dean of PSU's College of Education for seven years.

"We're excited about him speaking," said Rick Duling, USD 250 technology director. "It's just one of many benefits. There are so many chances for teachers to become more proficient or learn new programs they didn't already know. The breakout sessions will be a great chance for them to get some hands-on time as well."

Meals will be provided by the USD 250 food service program.

The workshops will be led by teachers throughout the four-state area, and will feature topics ranging from how to safely surf the Internet to repairing and restoring books.
