Students participate in math event |
Students from 10 middle and junior high schools in southeast Kansas participated in the area MATHCOUNTS competition at Pittsburg State University Saturday. The top three teams, which advanced to the state competition scheduled for March 11 at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, were Burlington Middle School, Louisburg Middle School and Pittsburg Community Middle School. The top six individuals also advanced to the state tournament. They were Joanna Liu, PCMS; Nate Reznicek, BMS; Nick Reznicek, BMS; Michael Reid, Central School; Ann Hutchison, Royster Middle School; and Alex Campbell, BMS. The local MATHCOUNTS program is sponsored by the southeast Kansas chapter of the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers, Superior Industries, Midwest Minerals, Funk manufacturing, and Wal-Mart.
