PHS students grab honors |
|
Forty-four PHS students battled against other high school students across the state and nation in the annual Knowledge Master Open. The team placed first in the state of Kansas and 30th out of 783 team nationally. Dawn Wendt, PHS gifted facilitator and team coach, said each team competed against other schools but in the comfort of their own building. "The questions are on a DVD and we project them on a screen in the auditorium," Wendt said. "We answer them as a team. The questions are timed so we get the maximum amount of points if we give the correct answer within the first seven seconds. Speed is a factor." The team members prepared for the event using questions found online and on hand-outs and by simply going to class. "I always tell them that just going to class is the easiest way to prepare," Wendt said. PHS has performed well in the past, but this is the first year for the school to place first.
