Standard 1 Movement Forms:

A physically educated student demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to practice in ways that are appropriate for learning new skills or sports.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to perform a variety of creative dances.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use basic offensive and defensive strategies in modified net games (e.g., tennis, volleyball, badminton) and invasive games (e.g., soccer, basketball).

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to combine skills competently to participate in modified versions of team and individual sports (e.g., soccer, racquetball, tennis, golf).

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate track skills.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to explore introductory outdoor pursuits skills (e.g., backpacking, rockclimbing, hiking, canoeing, cycling, ropes course, nature walking)

Standard 2 Movement Concepts:

A physically educated student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to understand and apply more advanced discipline specific knowledge.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to recognize and apply the health-related fitness components.

Standard 3 Physical Activity:

A physically educated student exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in an individualized fitness program with the help of the teacher.

Standard 4 Physical Fitness:

A physically educated student achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to engage in physical activity at "target heart rate" for a minimum of 20 minutes.

Standard 5 Responsible Behavior:

A physically educated student demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to play within the rules of the game.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to consider the consequence when confronted with a choice.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to resolve interpersonal conflicts with sensitivity to rights and feelings of others.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to accept a controversial decision by officials.

Standard 6 Respect For Others:

A physically educated student demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to display sensitivity to the feelings of others during interpersonal interaction.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to respect the physical and performance limitations of self and others.

Standard 7 Understanding Challenge:

A physically educated student understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to feel satisfaction when engaging in physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to enjoy learning new activities.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to become more skilled in favorite selected activities.
