Standard 1 Movement Forms:

A physically educated student demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate motor patterns of galloping, skipping, hopping, and sliding.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate manipulative skills of throwing, catching, and kicking.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use locomotor skills to move in time to music.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate ability to balance on a variety of body parts.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate ability to travel forwards, backwards, and sideways without falling.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use different locomotor skills to move at different speeds, levels, and directions.

Standard 2 Movement Concepts:

A physically educated student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use feedback to improve performance.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to develop a vocabulary of body parts and basic movement (locomotor skills, non-locomotor skills, body parts, speed, levels).

Standard 3 Physical Activity:

A physically educated student exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in sustained moderate physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in a wide variety of physical activities involving locomotion and manipulation of objects outside of physical education classes.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify physical activities that provide pleasure.

Standard 4 Physical Fitness:

A physically educated student achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to recognize changes in heart rate during physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in sustained physical activity that causes an increase in heart rate and respiration.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to recognize the components of health-related physical fitness.

Standard 5 Responsible Behavior:

A physically educated student demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate safety in movement while participating in physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to follow class rules and procedures.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to follow directions for class activity.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to take turns using equipment.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to work without interfering with others.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to put equipment away when not in use.

Benchmark 7

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to apply rules of physical education class to activities on the playground.

Standard 6 Respect For Others:

A physically educated student demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate pleasure in physical activity with others.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to choose playmates without regard to personal differences.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate willingness to participate with all others in large group activities.

Standard 7 Understanding Challenge:

A physically educated student understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to express positive feelings during physical education class.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to willingly try new activities.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify physical activities that are enjoyable.
