Standard 1 Movement Forms:

A physically educated student demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to design and practice ways that are appropriate for helping improve or learn activities or sports that are personally interesting.

Standard 2 Movement Concepts:

A physically educated student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to apply biomechanical concepts and principles to analyze and improve performance.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to describe and demonstrate the significance of some basic physiological principles to the development of personal fitness plan.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to analyze and compare health and fitness benefits derived from various physical activities.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to evaluate and select ways to improve performance.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to analyze ways to maintain and improve force production and absorption, as well as stability and balance.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use internal and external information to modify movement during performance.

Standard 3 Physical Activity:

A physically educated student exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in health-enhancing activities that can be pursued in the community.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify personal behaviors that support a healthy lifestyle and participate regularly in physical activity that contributes to attainment and maintenance of personal activity goals.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to analyze and compare health fitness benefits derived from various physical activities.

Standard 4 Physical Fitness:

A physically educated student achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to self-test personal fitness status related to cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility body composition.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to develop and implement a personal fitness program that relates to total wellness.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in a variety of physical activities appropriate for enhancing physical fitness.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to meet personal fitness goals after a period of training.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use results from fitness assessment to guide changes in personal programs.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to maintain appropriate levels of cardiovascular and respiratory efficiency, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition for a healthy lifestyle.

Standard 5 Responsible Behavior:

A physically educated student demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to acknowledge a "good play" from an opponent during competition.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to listen to all sides before taking action in conflict situations.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to set personal goals for activity and work toward their achievement.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to encourage others to apply appropriate etiquette in all physical activity settings.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to diffuse potential conflicts by communicating with other participants.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to create a safe environment for self-practice of skills.

Benchmark 7

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to take a supportive role in all activities.

Standard 6 Respect For Others:

A physically educated student demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to enjoy the satisfaction of meeting and cooperating with others of diverse backgrounds during physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to discuss the historical roles of games, sports and dance in the cultural life of a population.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to develop strategies for including persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities in physical activities.

Standard 7 Understanding Challenge:

A physically educated student understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify participation factors that contribute to enjoyment and self-expression.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to contribute meaningfully to the achievement of a team.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to derive genuine pleasure from participating in a physical activity.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to enter competition or activity voluntarily.
