Standard 1 Movement Forms:

A physically educated student demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to travel in different directions and different levels using a variety of locomotor and non-locomotor skills.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate contrast between slow and fast movements and soft and hard movements while traveling.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate a mature form of walking and running.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to self-toss a ball and catch it before it bounces three times.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate the ability to start and stop movement quickly on command

Standard 2 Movement Concepts:

A physically educated student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate walking, running, and hopping skills in a variety of situations.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movements with small equipment and objects.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to utilize correct jumping and landing techniques.

Standard 3 Physical Activity:

A physically educated student exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in a variety of moderate to vigorous physical activities.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to select and engage in developmentally appropriate activities.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify likes and dislikes connected with participation in physical activities.

Standard 4 Physical Fitness:

A physically educated student achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to recognize changes in the body as a result of cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to sustain moderate to vigorous physical activity for short periods of time.

Standard 5 Responsible Behavior:

A physically educated student demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate the ability to think before moving.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to understand the meaning of cooperation in physical activity.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate the ability to interact with others in order to meet a common goal during physical activity.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to follow instructions and apply instructions to games and activities.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate self-discipline and responsibility while actively participating in group, individual, and partner activities.

Standard 6 Respect For Others:

A physically educated student demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to develop positive play habits with others.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to understand how to respect others and the learning environment.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to resolve conflicts with others in socially acceptable ways.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to understand the importance of participating with others.

Standard 7 Understanding Challenge:

A physically educated student understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in a wide variety of activities that involve locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to enjoy participation in physical activity while alone or with others.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify and understand feelings that result from physical activity.
