Standard 1 Movement Forms:

A physically educated student demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate mature form in galloping, skipping, hopping, and sliding.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate control in traveling, weight bearing/shifting, and balance activities.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to combine locomotor patterns in time to music.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate manipulative skills of throwing, catching, dribbling with hand and foot, kicking, and striking.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate motor patterns in simple combinations (e.g., dribble while running, rope jumping).

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to confidently travel into and out of a rope turned by others

Standard 2 Movement Concepts:

A physically educated student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify critical elements of basic movement skills.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to apply movement concepts to a variety of basic skills.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to develop a beginning movement vocabulary (levels, speed, patterns, pathways, spatial awareness).

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use feedback to improve performance.

Standard 3 Physical Activity:

A physically educated student exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in moderate to vigorous gross motor activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate in a wide variety of physical activities and unstructured play outside of physical education classes.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to express pleasure from participation in physical activity.

Standard 4 Physical Fitness:

A physically educated student achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify changes in the body during vigorous physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to participate regularly in sustained, vigorous physical activity that causes an increase in heart rate and respiration.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify the components of health-related physical fitness.

Standard 5 Responsible Behavior:

A physically educated student demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate safety in movement while participating in physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to follow class rules and procedures and apply them to all activities.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to follow instructions for specific activities.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate consideration of others while participating in physical activities (e.g., share equipment, take turns, encourage others).

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate cooperation in group activities.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to use equipment safely and appropriately.

Standard 6 Respect For Others:

A physically educated student demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate cooperation with others regardless of personal differences.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate consideration of and respect for others during physical activity.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate socially acceptable ways to resolve conflict.

Standard 7 Understanding Challenge:

A physically educated student understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to accept and express feelings (in a socially acceptable manner) that result from challenges, successes, and failures in physical activity.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to willingly try new activities.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to express feelings about and during physical activity.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to express the benefits that accompany cooperation and sharing during physical activity.
