Standard 1 Movement Forms:

A physically educated student demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to throw, catch and kick using a mature form.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to dribble and pass a basketball to a moving receiver.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to develop and refine a creative dance into a repeatable pattern.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to jump and land for height and distance using a mature form.

Benchmark 5

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to escape, catch or dodge an individual or object while traveling.

Benchmark 6

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to leap, leading with either foot.

Benchmark 7

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to roll in a backward direction, without hesitating or stopping.

Benchmark 8

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to balance with obvious control.

Benchmark 9

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to strike a softly thrown, lightweight ball back to a partner using a variety of body parts and combinations of body parts (e.g., the bump in volleyball or thigh in soccer).

Benchmark 10

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to maintain appropriate body alignment during activity (e.g., lift, carry, push, pull).

Standard 2 Movement Concepts:

A physically educated student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to understand appropriate practice improves performance.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to consistently strike a softly thrown ball with a bat or a paddle demonstrating an appropriate grip, side to the target and swing plane.

Standard 3 Physical Activity:

A physically educated student exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to identify at least one activity for participation on a regular basis (formal or informal).

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to recognize some of the opportunities for physical activities in the community.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to regularly participate in physical activity for the purpose of developing a healthy lifestyle.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to describe healthful benefits that result from regular and appropriate participation in physical activity.

Standard 4 Physical Fitness:

A physically educated student achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to engage in appropriate activity that results in development of muscular strength and endurance.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to maintain continuous aerobic activity for a specified time.

Standard 5 Responsible Behavior:

A physically educated student demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to take seriously the role to teach an activity or skill to other classmates.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to work productively with a partner.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to accept the teacher''s decision regarding a personal rule infraction without displaying negative reactions.

Benchmark 4

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to access own performance problems without blaming others.

Standard 6 Respect For Others:

A physically educated student demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to demonstrate acceptance of skills and abilities of others through verbal and nonverbal behavior.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to recognize differences and similarities in others'' physical activity.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to respect persons from different backgrounds, cultural significance, and physical ability associated with various games, dances and physical activities.

Standard 7 Understanding Challenge:

A physically educated student understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

Benchmark 1

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to design games and dance sequences that are personally interesting.

Benchmark 2

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to experience feelings resulting from involvement in physical activity.

Benchmark 3

As a result of participating in a quality physical education program, it is reasonable to expect the student will be able to celebrate personal successes and achievements, as well as those of others.
