DRAGON FOOTBALL PHILOSOPHIES

You want to be a Dragon? There are a few things you might want to think about before making the commitment to being one of the few dedicated athletes that call themselves, "DRAGONS".

Setting Goals Practice Expectations Miscellaneous

Dragon Offensive Philosophy

1. Spread the defense by formation to open running lanes.

2. Use multiple formations, shifts and motion to created indecision and hopefully to make the defense become more generic.

3. Have confidence to throw the football in any situation or field position.

4. Adjust the offense to fit the talents of current personnel.

5. Let the flow of the game determine the balance between the running and passing games.

6. Have one or two gadget plays each week to make offense fun for the kids.

Could You Be A Purple Dragon?

Before you consider dedicating yourself to PHS Purple Dragon Football, you must seriously contemplate the following three questions:

1. Can we trust you?

2. Are you committed to excellence?

3. Do you care about the team?

If you can honestly answer "YES" to all three questions, we want you on the team because you're a winner.

GOALS

You don't race without a finish line, you don't shoot without a basket; everyone and every team needs goals. Without goals, how can success be measured. Be careful in setting your goals, they need to challenge you yet be realistic. Give your goals a great deal of thought, then write them down and read them often. Reflect on the following question; "Am I doing all I can to meet my personal as well as the team goals I have set?" These are the goals you should set with serious thought.

Personal Goals
-- Defensive Goals: -- Offensive Goals:

Team Goals -- Defensive Goals: -- Offensive Goals:

Season Team Goals:

"The battle lasts 32 minutes, the VICTORY endures a LIFETIME."

"Teamwork is nothing more than everybody being committed to each other's success."

TOP

Practice Expectations:

Be prompt to team meetings.

If you must be taped get into the training room early so you are NOT late to practice.

Stop any and all activities on the whistle.

Players are responsible for the practice mood. Seniors are responsible for team attitude.

Know yourself, emphasize your weaknesses.

If the individual lets the team down, the team runs.

Partners must push each other.

"Detentions" are unacceptable for disciplinary reasons. Act with class during the school day.

Do not interfere with other teams practicing prior or after our designated practice time.

Have a winning attitude EVERY TIME you step on the field.

"What you are capable of doing is determined by talent.

What you actually do is determined by your attitude."

MISCELLANEOUS

We expect Frosh to show respect for Upperclassman and upperclassmen to demonstrate how we do things and why we do things.

EQUIPMENT: Simply said---Treat all equipment and uniforms as if you had earned the money to pay for them, and then some. Show respect to them as you will be looked upon with respect as you use your equipment and wear your uniforms. Lost uniforms and equipment will be paid for by the player.

YOUR COACHES

....are prejudiced individuals. We are prejudice for enthusiasm, hard work, relentless effort, courtesy, appreciation, selflessness, and dedication. We are prejudice against laziness, excuses, conflict, jealousy, and negative attitudes.

....are normal people with moods, frustrations, and aggravations mixed with energy, enthusiasm, and dedication. Be honest with with us and supply us free speech and forget the cheap talk.

....expect you to act with class. We will do the same. Remember that when we are displeased with something or someone in practice or in a game it is not you as a person. We are working to correct some flaw in the machinery of our skill level, psychological preparation, or in the work ethic.

Open Door Policy

Communication is one of the keys to a successful team whether on the field or off. If we are to maintain the level of team unity needed to provide a HIGH level of success, problems should be solved before they become problems. All of the coaches are available and willing to discuss any problem you may have.
