PHS Wrestling News 2007

The Dragon Wrestling program stepped it up when it came to tournament action this year.  PHS went to class 4 A for the first time in school history.  The Dragons took 9th place at the State tournament in Salina, KS, the best finish in the program’s history. Derek and Tyler Koehn both went over the century mark for career wins.  Tyler was given the Outstanding Wrestler at the Bobcat Classic as well as the Regional tournament hosted by Douglass. Tyler also made Dragon history by being the first undefeated PHS wrestler finishing with a perfect 38-0 record.
Derek Koehn, Jordan Brown, and Tyler Koehn earned First Team All SEK League honors.  These three also received Joplin Globe’s All Area First Team Honors in their respective weights.

Derek Koehn earned a scholarship to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.  He is the first PHS wrestler to go straight out of High School and compete at Division I University.  Daniel Peterson wrestled Varsity for Terry Brands at University of Tennessee, Chatanooga, however he went to Labette Community College first.  Derek is projected to wrestle 149 lbs. For the 2007-2008 season.  Derek also selected PHS male athlete of the year by entire PHS coaching staff. The wrestling family at PHS will miss Derek and his leadership a great deal. UNC is fortunate to have Derek in their lineup.  Good Luck Derek !

PHS goal for the 2007-2008 season is to bring home more State Champions and a Team Title.  We always aim high in this program.  We cracked the top ten this year and would like to bring home team hardware in 2008!
