| Overview:
Every School in USD 250
has its own building Local Area Network (LAN). These networks
connect most or all of the Mac OS, Windows based computers,
laser printers, and other networkable resources together
to maximize the utilization of computer resources. Furthermore,
each of the LANs are connected together by a Wide Area
Network
(WAN) that connects each of the school buildings together
for the use of centrally located resources and Internet
connectivity. Centrally located district resources include
a file server "farm", Internet and Intranet servers,
and network monitoring systems that alert our IT staff
within
seconds of a problem. Our centralized file server resources
are located on Windows 2003 servers (serving PC and Macintosh
clients), and UNIX (Open BSD and Linux) as Internet
and Intranet servers |

| Our WAN: Our
district WAN is 100BaseFX switched native Ethernet over
single mode fiber optic cable. Discrete connections into
each building are made to the district Technology Office
where they are connected together, and to district wide
resources. The connections between the buildings (Fiber
Optic cable) are owned by Cox Communication and leased
to USD 250. |

| Internet Connectivity: USD
250 is a member of the Kansas Research and Education Network
(KanREN), and purchases Internet connectivity from them.
Our outbound connection to the Internet is a 4.5 Mb IMA
connection to the KanREN backbone (System Map) that is
then aggregated
with other KanREN members in
the 620 area code and exits to the Internet in Wichita
over 4 T1 connections. Additionally, all networked computers
in USD 250 are Internet capable with the current ability
to connect 2304 computers simultaneously. USD 250 provides
many Internet services for our users. |
