Curriculum

The Pittsburg School District is implementing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).  PLCs are teams of teachers, administrators, and support staff working toward a common focus, to reach the mission and vision of the school through collaboration with a focus on results.  The curriculum review process is carried out through the use of Professional Learning Committees.  Ongoing collaboration takes place among grade level teachers, department teams, school to school teams and district teams.  All work focuses on the following questions:

  1. What do we want students to learn? (This is the taught curriculum).
  2. How will we know they are learning? (This includes formative and summative assessment).
  3. What are we going to do if they don't learn it? (Intervention, Differentiation, Multi-Tiered System of Support)
  4. What are we going to do if they already know it? (Differentiation and/or Enrichment Activities).

The curriculum web pages are designed to help parents, community members, and teachers identify what content will be taught in each subject area at specific grade levels or courses.  However, they present only the agreed upon essential skills and content of what needs to be taught.  We understand that curriculum is not just the words in a document but the actions that occur in the classroom.
