PHS Needs Closet Receives Grant from Community Foundation

Pittsburg High School Club 209A has received an Elm Acres grant through the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas (CFSEK) to help support its ongoing efforts to assist at-risk students with a needs closet.

“We are so excited and grateful to be receiving an Elm Acres grant from [CFSEK],” PHS School Social Worker Susan Russian said. “You never know what challenges or needs a student may face, and this grant helps ensure we can provide the support they need to be successful inside and outside of school.”

The PHS Needs Closet significantly impacts the lives of many high school students by providing essential support to those who need it most. With support from organizations like CFSEK, the impact is greatly expanded, helping more students feel supported, confident, and prepared to succeed.

With essential items such as clothes, shoes, hygiene products, and so much more, PHS is proud to continue to provide this important resource to its school community. Funds from the Elm Acres grant will help supply students with not only basic clothing or hygiene items, but also with individualized needs that a student/family may have like food, glasses or even covering the cost of a school field trip, this ensures all students have access to a broad range of fundamental items and opportunities.

The CFSEK hosts individual charitable funds created by donors who have a passion for giving back to their community. Grants from these funds assist people throughout Southeast Kansas and beyond. Call 620-231-8897 or visit SoutheastKansas.org for more information about the Community Foundation.
