Sophomore McKenna Hodges was one of 25 students selected for the California Scholastic Press Association workshop, a two-week workshop in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Hodges is a sophomore at PHS and a second-year member of the yearbook and newspaper staff and also works 20 hours a week at a local restaurant.
During her interview today with KODE, McKenna said she would gain 10 times her current experience at the workshop, and she knows it will help her with her dream of becoming a journalist. At the Workshop McKenna will have a chance to work in different forms of journalism and have the opportunity to explore different areas of the field. These courses include Print, TV, Online Production and more.
McKenna is responsible for paying the workshop fee, all travel to California and food throughout her stay totaling $3,500.
"Mckenna is hardworking and a talented student journalist who is passionate about cultivating her craft. I am incredibly proud of her and know that this opportunity is very important to her and her future. She will maximize this chance to improve her skillset and prepare for her future. It’s been amazing to see the community support her as she works to raise the money to pay for this opportunity." Says Mrs. Emily Smith, Student Publications Adviser.
McKenna's due date for registration and funds is Friday, May 10th. If you would like to support McKenna visit her GoFundMe here.
