Health Services

The School-Based Health Center services are available to all students of the Pittsburg Community School District. These services are also available to all school district faculty and employees

All enrolled students are seen regardless of the ability to pay. CHCSEK will bill third-party insurance, but the student will not be responsible for co-pays at the time of service. Covered services include the following: Telehealth Visits, vaccines and point of care lab testing completed during the visit including swabs for infections such as strep, influenza and COVID (Point of care testing is not available at all sites) 

Staff members will be responsible for insurance co-pays at time of service. Costs associated for third-party referrals such as X-Rays, Computed Tomography (“CT”) Scans, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (“MRI”), Echocardiogram (“Echo”), bone density scans, and other specialty referral services will be billed to third-party insurance and any deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses will be the responsibility of the enrolled student or staff member. Blood draws and other laboratory testing are sent to Quest Laboratories and will be billed directly to insurance. Enrolled students and staff members are responsible for out-of-pocket lab expenses. Quest has additional financial assistance available if needed. 

School Based Health Services including tele-med are not designed or intended to replace your existing primary care physician, and we urge you to maintain that relationship. However, there may be times when your child’s physician is unavailable or you need a service that they don’t offer, such as immunizations. If your child has a chronic illness, our staff will be happy to work with you and your child’s physician to help monitor symptoms while your child is in school.

No. If requested by parent/legal guardian, we can assess your child if they are complaining of a problem (e.g. sore throat) and can help determine whether they can remain in school or need to be picked up. The provider will call after the visit is over to update and answer questions.
