Health Services

Pittsburg Community Schools cares about the health of our students. Each of our school buildings has a nurse or health aid available during the school day. In addition, through a partnership with Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (CHC/SEK), the mobile health van, KidCare Connection visits each school throughout the week.

School nurses provide the following services:

  • Provides first aid.
  • Triage or treat accidents and illness.
  • Administer medications and manage chronic illness, for example, diabetes or asthma.
  • Handle life-threatening allergy and asthma events.
  • Screen students for vision and hearing to make sure there are no barriers for students to learn.
  • Ensure immunizations and health assessments are current.
  • Educate children about healthy lifestyles.
  • Support educational success through IEPs, Individual Health Plans, and disaster plans.
